As much as I almost wholly agree with the thesis of your arguments here, I feel compelled to point out the (obvious) fact that changes that have occurred in America since the late 40s now nearly completely nullify the possibility that the reasoning underlying all those tenets of instructing children to be good citizens (in a democratic republic like ours) is now virtually extinct...by virtue of the dangerously fanatical neo-Marxist ideologues who seem to have taken over the Democratic Party, lock, stock and barrel.

It is no coincidence that America as we knew it 'back then' reflected the strong Northern European culture and social traditions brought with LEGAL immigrants in the late 1800/early 1900 waves of immigration. In today's Marcusian/Marxist-influenced progressive leftist culture that predominates among the young and experientially naive in America, the corrosive 'DEI/Woke/Critical Theory' that would admix our society with diverse cultural groups (that are often severely at odds with democratic ideals) has literally negated all these fine post-war democratic ideals. Moreover, made them impossible to re-institute and achieve.

Today I walked my pup through the local public park, a beautiful little haven of peacefulness whose pathways are thoughtfully trail-marked by an unending string of snack-sized Cheetos and Taco Chips bags (handed out to them with school lunches) tossed carelessly away by the culturally diverse and pudgy local school children...who clearly have never benefited from any of those lessons you reference on how to be a responsible citizen. QED. Sic transit gloria mundi...

It's a shame in NYS we don't have more options from public schools. Vouchers are classic example of lack of opportunity to bypass the public system in NYS.
