Annie, thanks for writing this. I am always dumbfounded at how people in public will shower attention on someone's dog yet ignore a couple of adorable kids standing nearby.

Granted, I am not a dog/animal lover which makes me a minority, but I just find kids to be way more interesting and stimulating, regardless of how much work people think they are.

Children are God's most incredible creation. You're right - it isn't a good sign for our society if we're redirecting more attention to animals over kids.

Thanks, Ray! Agreed, I have nothing against pets--and think they are a wonderful aid and comfort--but it signals deep societal rot if we care more about them than we do about precious human beings.

Excellent thoughts.. But the rest of that is: my sons grew up, got married and moved away (not necessarily in that order). I have pets big and small, inside and out. It fills a void. I don't get carried away with clothing for them and can't take them everywhere, but I'm never alone at home and always have something to do!

Totally understand! There is nothing wrong with pets as long as they are in their proper place ... and it sounds like you have had your priorities straight. :-)
