The other day, I heard an announcer on a local classical radio station gently chide his listeners, saying, “It’s almost Easter, and I haven’t had one request from our audience for selections from Handel’s Messiah!” For those who think of the Messiah
I have many wonderful memories of signing that chorus during my days in the Jr Choir of Grace Lutheran Church in Anaheim California. We had a choir director with a great love of children AND classical music. Getting a group of 7-11 year old kids to sing that aria (?), was a REAL accomplishment: (LOL!).
However (?),
today many people simply have no use for Western civilization. That culture has been used to promulgate conquest, enslavement, war, oppression, and genocide. Sadly for those of us raised to cherish and value what was (and still IS), good out of The West, we now must face the backlash of an undereducated and marginalized youth, who see that western culture has been justifiably seen as a negative, AND(?), that those who were involved in the conquest and destruction of many EQUALLY valuable eastern , oriental, and African contributions ;
then REPLACED those cultures with that of The West; Of course , it MUST be said that just about every empire that rose and fell : ALSO included those sins too!
We need to restore balance AND inclusion to education. Include ALL of mankind’s history and culture, then the imbalance and ignorance can be put to rest.
