We’ve reached the home stretch of the school year, and by now, most parents, teachers, and even students understand the lay of the land in their schools.
Basics. I was being taught how to teach SEL in my masters courses. I promptly stopped when I figured it out. School is a place to learn basic material. When I was coming up we learned our SEL through real life interactions. I’m Gen X so we had much of that. How one feels about something DOESN’T belong in our schools. Neither does the push to “get a degree.” A certified plumber can live a very good life, but some generations are afraid to do dirty work because it’s beneath them. Thus they become disenfranchised from society and wind up throwing bottles of concrete at police while trespassing, rioting and breaking a slew of laws.
